My studio contains a range of guitars but also bass, keyboards and drums so if you're a complete musical beginner and aren't really sure what your forte might be you can try out any of the instruments first to see what takes your fancy....

Guitar

Guitar is my specialty and I offer lessons on the following range of instruments:

Metal strung, 6 string acoustic. The most common type of guitar, usually used for folk, rock, blues etc

Metal strung, 12 string acoustic. Like the 6 string but with a fuller sound. Great for playing chords as an accompaniment for folk, rock, etc. Think "Pinball Wizard" by The Who and you'll get an idea of what a 12 string sounds like...

Nylon strung, 6 string "Spanish" acoustic. Usually played with a finger picking style but also great for Flamenco style strumming!

Metal strung, 6 string electric. Used on everything from Beatles to Motorhead! Can be played through a range of amplifiers and effects units to create a breathtaking array of noises....

I always think its best to start off with the 6 string acoustic to pick up the basics and once you can play one of these you will find the electric version much easier to master. People who start on electric can't always play an acoustic so good, and if you're at a party and there's a power cut you'll still be able to keep everyone entertained for hours on your trusty acoustic!

Amps for the electric guitar are provided. A Marshall 40 Watt 'Valvestate' Combo is on hand for conventional amping or you can plug into a 'Line 6' Pod XT for direct injection into the mixing desk when you're ready to record your performance!

Bass

The studio has a straightforward 'Encore' Bass in the style of a Fender Precision Bass. Its nothing fancy but it works really well through the Marshall 65 Watt Bass Amp.

Keyboards

A Korg X5 covers the keyboards requirements. It has a great piano sound and loads of other sounds which will keep you engrossed for hours.

Drums

Drums come in the form of a 'Mapex' rock kit with Zildjan rock hi-hat, crash and ride cymbals. I can get you started on drums with an introduction to some of the basics, then if you find that drums are your thing and you want to take it further I would recommend my mate Dirk Forsdyke (Tuscan Raiders drummer) who can provide advanced tutoring. Give me a shout for Dirk's contact details.
